Instructions for Mountain State Fair volunteers

Bring your cell phone!

This is an active sales job, not a passive sit-still-and-hope-no-one asks-questions job.

Mountain State Fair Activities:  1. Distribute palm cards, 2. register voters,   3. support candidates,  4. collect donations,  5. Smile at the voters!

1.Distribute palm cards.  There are hundreds of little yellow palm cards in the booth, and they are providing the single most effective exercise of reaching out to the citizens who walk by.   We have found that we could hold up a card, ask if the citizen were ready to vote, and if yes, ask if they would like a list of the conservative judges.   Many, many of the cards have already been distributed.   You should know that not all of the conservative judges listed are Republicans, but they are suggested conservative candidates.   The back side of the card lists all the Republicans who will be identified with an "R" on the ballot in Buncombe County.   Urge Republicans from other counties to create their own palm card to use for the coming election.   Citizens need help identifying the conservative judicial candidates.

 2. Register citizens to vote. First, study the form, carefully, so you won’t let them get away without filling it out completely.

Aggressively ask passersby (especially 18-22 year olds, whose population has many who are not yet registered, because they could not register when they got their first driver's license at 16.)

Is your voter registration current and up to date?if NO,

Have you had enough of the mess in Raleigh?if YES, sign them up!

If they need to register or move their registration, help them fill out a registration form. Be sure they put driver’s license number (preferred) or SS last digits (OK) on form (lower left).

Don’t let a Republican walk off with a completed registration form! Put the completed form(s) in the storage box. We’ll hand them in. Do NOT take any filled-in forms home with you!

3. Support Republican candidates, either in person or with handouts.  Many candidates been invited to use our booth for "meet and greet" time with citizens.  The booth is for all Republicans who are running for an office for which NC 11th District Republicans will be voting.   All Republicans.

4. Collect contributions for the 11th District Republican support for the booth.  We cannot officially "sell" anything at our booth -- we can accept donations.

For you to accept any cash money, the person who donates must fill out the donation form!

General Instructions:

A. Sit in the tall chairs, not in short ones. You need to be face to face with the passers-by. Candidates may need to use the short chairs for breaks.

B. Be cordial to any Republican candidates who want to hang around and hand out literature.

C. Remember – you are the face of the Republican party to all passers-by. Be sweet! Smile!

D. At the end of your shift, welcome the new volunteer(s) (see the roster/spreadsheet).

E. At the end of the evening, store all money, small signs, registration forms (blank forms and completed Republican forms in two separate bunches, please), under the table in the black storage box.

Important Reminder to volunteers:  The rules of the WNC Mountain State Fair state that our “work” at the fair must stay inside the bounds of our 20-foot by 10-foot booth.   Inside the tent, neither candidates nor volunteers may stand outside the booth to campaign or hand out literature.
