Instructions for Mountain State Fair volunteers

Bring your cell phone!

This is an active sales job, not a passive sit-still-and-hope-no-one asks-questions job.

2011 Mountain State Fair Activities:

1.  Voter registration.   Be SURE to read over the whole form as soon as you arrive.   Those forms change a little bit each year.   Be SURE the required bits of the form get filled out.  Don’t let a Republican walk off with a completed registration form! Put the completed form(s) in the black plastic storage box. We’ll hand them in. Do NOT take any filled-in forms home with you!

2.  Republican Presidential Candidate Straw Poll:  All citizens of voting age may vote once.   We have permission to publish the results of the poll on buncombegop.org.

3.  The Buncombe County referendum regarding the 1/4% sales tax increase on which every Buncombe County voter will vote in November.   Be SURE to read the information, front and back, so you can point out the flaws in this legislation.

4.  A chart of "Who pays how much Federal Income tax" shows just how much the rich ALREADY pay.  If you run low on these sheets, let George Keller (712-1711) know.

5.  A sheet which shows how very little the nation's debt was reduced by the recent Congressional squabble is available for your study.  If you run low on these sheets, let George Keller (712-1711) know.

6.   From time to time, candidates and/or candidate committees will be working in our booth.   If they are campaigning inside our building, by MSF rule, they must remain inside our booth.   No wandering around.   If there is a problem, let me know.

7.  Smile!!!   You are the face of the Republican Party to the thousands of citizens we see and talk to these next 11 days.   Sit in our tall chairs, talk to the passers-by, and enjoy yourself.   Smile!

General Instructions:

A. Sit in the tall chairs, not in short ones. You need to be face to face with the passers-by.    Candidates may need to use the short chairs for breaks.

B. Be cordial to any Republican candidates who want to hang around and hand out literature.

C. At the end of your shift, welcome the new volunteer(s) (see the roster/spreadsheet).

D. At the end of the evening, store all registration forms (blank forms and completed Republican forms in two separate bunches, please), under the table in the black plastic storage box.

E. Remember – you are the face of the Republican party to all passers-by. Be sweet! Smile!

 F. Coordinator George Keller’s home phone: 828-252-4423. George Keller’s cell phone: 828-712-1711 is always on. Don’t hesitate to call.

Important Reminder:  The rules of the WNC Mountain State Fair state that our “work” at the fair must stay inside the bounds of our 10-foot by 10-foot booth.   Inside the Event Center, neither candidates nor volunteers may stand outside the booth to campaign or hand out literature.
