Letter to AC-T re editorial criticizing Bill Fletcher

Editor,

You can't have it both ways. Your editorial on February 13 points out that a majority of the NC State Supreme Court judges are Republicans. True, but it was the Democrat-controlled Legislature (DCL) that forces us to vote in the Supreme Court races without showing us the political party affiliation of the candidates. The DCL did that because NC voters have been choosing conservative Republican judges, who are less likely to make up the law as they go along. Because of Democrats, it's a non-partisan Court, and don't you forget it!

The fact that there is an apparent conflict between US law and NC law with regard to provisional ballots is not Bill Fletcher's fault. This is not an issue of "partisan politics" as you imply, but of the "NC Constitution and laws," which you dismiss. Bill should be congratulated on working to be sure that all NC Boards of Elections obey the laws passed by the DCL. Each and very Republican, including Bill, wants all legal votes to count.

Please do not criticize Republicans when we want the laws of the great state of North Carolina to be followed.
